How We’re Embracing *Cozy* This Fall

Is your home craving a little drama this fall?

We had many years of white walls and neutrals, and now we are seeing moody, saturated color in interior design. This change in trend got me thinking about how to incorporate moodiness for fall without re-doing your whole home (which you should not be doing anyway based on trends!)

Here are some tips on how to jump on this just in time for cozy season.

First question-Do you want to go all in for this or just bring in some accents?

GO ALL IN!

The best way to execute big bang for your buck changes is with paint. Saturated colors like espresso, plum, evergreen and eggplant can give your spaces an instant boost. Far from closing in and making rooms look smaller, dark hued walls can feel expansive, especially if you paint the millwork and ceiling with the same color (color drenching.)

Color drenching is a great way for your room to give you a hug, by enveloping you in one color. It is more of a commitment than just painting walls, but we recommend it to clients all the time. All over color is luxurious and soothing. And it makes all of your furnishings pop.

JUST SOME ACCENTS PLEASE!

If you are looking to make some low cost seasonal changes for fall and winter, here are your best bets:

Survey your bedroom for an accent color with cozy vibes. Does the art or rug contain any deep tones? Buy some new bedding and accent pillows with that color to keep you feeling (emotionally) warm all season. You can switch back to lighter neutrals in the spring.

Same goes for living spaces. Look for a point of reference in the room and add throws and pillows, in a solid or scaled patterns, in the deep, rich colors you're seeing in design publications and social media. You don't have to spend alot of money to do this, but I recommend buying quality items that you will want to bring out again year after year in the fall. They perform better and you will only have to invest one time.

Don’t forget about textures! There’s nothing like snuggling up under a soft, fuzzy blanket on a cold night.

Get your cozy on!
