Small Space, Big Results: Powder Room to Full Bath Transformation

Transforming a small powder room under the stairs into a full bath with a shower can be a challenging task. However, with a little creativity and ingenuity, it can be done.

Here’s how we did it:

We were approached by a homeowner who wanted to turn their tiny powder room into a full bath with a shower. The powder room was located under a staircase, which meant that the walls had some weird angles that limited what we could do with the floorplan.

Due to the angles on the left and back wall, we knew we needed to put the shower on the right wall. There wasn't enough room to add a shower with the existing square footage, so we borrowed a few inches from the family room stair area. We also moved the door left to make room for the shower, and had the door swing out instead of in. These strategic moves allowed us to expand the usable space in powder room without sacrificing any usable family room space.

We wanted to make the room feel bigger and brighter while also adding privacy to the toilet area. We accomplished this by adding a half-wall between the toilet and shower, while the rest of the shower remained glass. (See above rendering)

The transformation was astonishing. We went from a cramped powder room to a beautiful and functional full bath with a shower that exceeded the homeowner's expectations. A little creative problem solving goes a long way!
